Falcons open CVC play with doubleheader sweep of Reedley

COALINGA — The Coalinga College softball team opened up its Central Valley Conference schedule by sweeping a doubleheader from Reedley College at home on Tuesday. The Falcons won the opener 8-4 and rallied for a 12-6 win in Game 2.

GAME 1: Coalinga 8, Reedley 4
Olivia Marsing hit two home runs and drove in five runs, and Coalinga defeated Reedley 8-4 in Game 1 of the CVC doubleheader.

Marsing's five RBIs led all hitters as Coalinga scored all eight of its runs across three innings — three in the second, two in the fourth and three in the fifth — before holding Reedley scoreless over the final two innings.

Bryton Loflin also homered for the Falcons and finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Niliah Gruver went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Ashley Rudziewicz added two hits. Coalinga finished with nine hits.

Genesis Barrera earned the complete-game victory, allowing four runs, just two earned, on nine hits over seven innings. She walked four and struck out four.

GAME 2: Coalinga 12, Reedley 6
Ashley Rudziewicz went 2 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs, and the Falcons rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat Reedley 12-6 ito complete the sweep.

Coalinga trailed 4-0 after the first inning before erupting for five runs in the second to take the lead for good. The Falcons added a run in the fourth and then broke the game open with a six-run, sixth-inning to put the contest out of reach.

Niliah Gruver hit a home run and walked twice for Coalinga, and Sophia Landeros went 2 for 5 with two RBIs. Breanna Cisneros added two hits and two RBI, and Olivia Marsing drove in two runs. Four Coalinga players — Rudziewicz, Bryton Loflin, Izzy Avalos and Marsing — each stole a base.

Alexis Espinoza pitched a complete game for the Falcons, allowing six runs, four earned, on nine hits over seven innings. She walked four and struck out two.

With the sweep, Coalinga improved to 8-10 overall and 2-0 in the Central Valley Conference. The Falcons return to action on Sunday (March 8) when they host College of the Siskiyous in a non-conference doubleheader that gets underway at 11 a.m.
