Coalinga College has named Anthony Alvez from the men's basketball team, softball's Niliah Gruver, and Teruki Kato of baseball its Student-Athletes of the Month for February.
Anthony Alvez, Men's Basketball (Sophomore, Guard, Capital HS / Santa Fe, NM)
Since stepping into the starting point guard role, Anthony has been a steady leader on the court. Throughout the month of February, he demonstrated strong leadership, battled through adversity, and consistently challenged his teammates to elevate their play. In the classroom, Anthony continues to represent what it means to be a true student-athlete. He is on track to graduate at the end of the semester and remains committed to finishing strong both academically and athletically.
Niliah Gruver, Softball (Sophomore, Catcher/Utility, Clovis West HS / Clovis, CA)
Niliah had a huge month at the plate, collecting 12 extra-base hits and 33 total bases in 10 games. She delivered in clutch situations with a .571 average with runners in scoring position and consistently battled in the box with 3.7 pitches per plate appearance. She was a powerful and reliable bat in the middle of the Falcons' lineup all month.
Teruki Kato, Baseball (Sophomore, Outfielder, University Sapporo HS / Tokai, Japan)
Teruki has powered the offensive surge for the Falcons to start conference play. For the month, he had 23 hits (.442/.500/.532) with 2 doubles, 3 triples, and 18 RBI. He also played a stellar right field, making multiple great defensive plays. Hats off Teruki on a great month of February!
