The West Hills College Coalinga Falcons open their Central Valley Conference season at home, against defending champion Fresno City College on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m.
It's also the first home match for the Falcons (2-3) in 2018.
The Rams (5-3) are currently ranked No. 13 in the CCCAA, and No. 7 in Northern California.
WHCC won road contests against Monterey Peninsula (Aug. 31) and San Jose City (Sept. 7) during preseason tournaments.
Freshman OH Andrea Lopez leads the Falcon offense, ranking fourth among all CVC players with 3.17 kills per set.
Nine of the 12 Falcon players are freshmen.
The CVC teams are fared relatively well during the pre-conference schedule, with half of the teams above .500 overall. Fresno remains the only state ranked team from the CVC heading into conference action.
"This year's conference teams look very competitive, top to bottom," said WHCC head coach Jeff Wanderer.
"I think several teams can make the state rankings and qualify for postseason. The next nine weeks will feature tough matchups in the CVC. We look foward to hosting and playing in some great gym environments on the road."
