The West Hills College Coalinga softball team collected 13 hits in windy home conditions, defeating Porterville, 9-6, in Friday's Central Valley Conference game.
Four Falcons had at least two hits, including leadoff hitter Brenna Cortez (3-4, triple, 3 runs) and clean-up hitter Marlene Delgado-Nieblas (2-4, double, 4 RBI).
Freshman pitcher Stephanie Cervantes won her fifth game of the season, limiting a strong Porterville line-up to just two runs through six innings. She also recorded her 10th complete game of the year.
After the visiting Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Falcons responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Cortez led-off with a triple down the right field line and Destiny Duran followed with an RBI-single. Duran later scored on an error and Cynthia Montalvo (single) scored on Selena Rea's sacrifice fly.
WHCC took a commanding 9-2 lead after five innings, highlighted by RBI-doubles from Delgado-Nieblas in the fourth and fifth innings.
Porterville rallied for three runs in the seventh inning, but Cervantes forced an infield pop-up to end the game with runners on first and third.
Every Falcon in the line-up had either a hit or an RBI, including: Cervantes (2-4, RBI), Duran (1-2, R, RBI), Montalvo (2-3, BB, 4 R) - and one hit apiece by Abbie Nodal (RBI), Desirae Nodal, and Kendra Hawken.
WHCC has collected 13 hits or more in four of the last nine CVC games.
