West Hills College Coalinga makes its National Division debut on Friday night at Memorial Bowl Stadium, hosting the state's 20th-ranked program Diablo Valley College.
Friday's match-up is the first game of the 2018 CCCAA football season, ahead of Saturday's full schedule of 32 games.
The Falcons are coming of a 6-3 season, while the Vikings finished 2017 with a 5-6 record.
WHCC compiled a 33-9 record over the last four seasons - the second best mark among the CCCAA American Division schools. The three bowl game appearances, two conference championships, and one division title during that span also prompted the Falcons being evelated to the state's Power 6 playoff tier.
"Week One is always an exciting time for a football program, and our guys are extra motiviated to be playing at home," said WHCC head coach Justin Berna, entering his second season at his alma mater.
"Diablo Valley is a Top 20 team and we get to see what type of team we are right out the gate. They have a good program and it's definitely a step up in overall competition from the American to the National Division."
Kickoff at Memorial Bowl Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
