Falcons Land Eight on All-Valley League

The Valley League head coaches selected their 2018 all-league selections on Monday at Modesto Junior College - and eight Falcons made the list.

Sophomore twin brothers QB Jamal Salaam and WR Jameel Salaam were First Team All-Valley League selections, along with sophomore WR/KR Imoni Donadelle.

Jamal Salaam ranked third in Northern California Football Conference passing yards per game (282.1), while Donadelle led all NCFC players with 12 receiving touchdowns. Salaam's 2,821 passing yards and Donadelle's TD-mark both set WHCC records.

Jameel Salaam finished second in the Valley League with 41 receptions.

On defense, the league coaches selected sophomore safety Doniaj Smelker, sophomore LB Fred Feleti and freshman LB Enrique Valdez as First Team members.

Smelker ranked eighth in league tackles (58), while Feleti and Valdez (53 each) were among the Top 15.

The coaches also picked five honorable mentions, with two coming from WHCC: sophomore WR Deharrius Smedley and freshman DB Tyrese Washington.

Smedley ranked third in both league receptions (40) and receiving yards (666); and Washington tied for second with five interceptions.

"The votes came from our opposing league head coaches, and West Hills is well-represented among the league's outstanding players," said Falcons head coach Justin Berna.

"This is a good mix of sophomores and freshmen from our program - and a few others just missed making the list. The sophomores will have great opportunities to land scholarships at the four-year univsersity level, and the freshmen will lead us into a productive off-season."

Berna said the 2018 all-league selections will be honored at the team's annual awards dinner in December.
