After posting the second-best record in the American Division over the last four seasons, the West Hills College Coalinga football program has been elevated to the state championship playoff-level National Division. The Falcons will begin a new two-year season cycle in the Valley League starting this 2018 fall season.
Since 2014, WHCC has compiled a 33-9 overall record, with three bowl game appearances, two conference championships, and one division title. Shasta College, with a 34-9 record during the span, is also moving up - as two Northern California programs (Contra Costa College and DeAnza College) are now in the American Division.
"Moving up to the top tier comes as a result of our overall RPI ranking, conference finishes, and postseason success," said WHCC associate dean of athletics Eric Mendoza.
"Winning nearly 80 percent of our games is a credit to our great coaches and support staff, but mainly the outstanding student-athletes wearing the Falcon uniform over the years. We have a proud, small community college tradition and that won't change as we now compete against larger programs."
Northern California Football Conference released its new alignment for league memberships (2018 and 2019):
