Baseball field rennovation projects continue at West Hills College Coalinga with Thursday's installation of a new LED scoreboard at Keith Scrivner Field.
The Nevco Model 1606 scoreboard (measuring 14 feet high by 28 feet wide) features electronic team names, a decorative arch on both sides and a full-color LED message center facing Elm Avenue - the main street in Coalinga. The four-foot high truss includes the Falcon logo on both sides as well.
Three major corporate sponsors - including gkkworks and Harris Ranch Inn & Restaurant - will have advertisments featured later this spring.
"We are excited to have the scoreboard project transform from plans into reality," said WHCC associate dean of athletics Eric Mendoza.
"Our college has made great strides with improving our athletic fields and this is another step in enhancing the facilities for our student-athletes. This major upgrade allows our baseball fans to enjoy our new home-game experience as well."
Earlier this season, baseball infield rennovations included leveling the surface, rebuilding the pitcher's mound and improving the bullpens. The field projects will continue this year with outfield work scheduled after the 2018 season.
WHCC softball diamond has also undergone an infield resurfacing project and a brand new warning track during this academic year - with more upgrades scheduled in 2018-19. A new softball scoreboard was purchased and installed two years ago.
